Week 4: International Framework of SDG
International Framework of SDG
On 25 March
I have gained a deeper understanding of how sustainable development has evolved globally and how it connects to local values through the concept of Sejahtera. I learned that global efforts toward environmental sustainability began in earnest at the 1972 Stockholm Conference, which laid the groundwork for key conventions and agreements like the Brundtland Report (1987), the Rio Earth Summit (1992), and the Kyoto Protocol (1997). These meetings helped formalize international collaboration, especially in areas like climate change, biodiversity, desertification, and sustainable development goals (SDGs). Even though, i am not really understand in detail about SDG development but i knew SDG has go through several conference and treaty to be launched upon the world.
Importantly, I learned about the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, which acknowledges that while all countries share the duty of protecting the environment, their capacities and historical contributions to environmental degradation differ.
On a more personal and cultural level, I learned about the concept of Sejahtera, a holistic philosophy rooted in well-being, peace, and harmony, grounded in Islamic values. It emphasizes not just physical and economic stability, but also spiritual, emotional, and moral wellness, aligning closely with the goals of sustainable development but from a distinctly local and ethical perspective.
